Tips, Ties And Tactics Atlantic Salmon: Tailing The Fish
Posted by fliesandfinsnorth on Wednesday, November 15 @ 09:58:43 PST

Getting the fish in is an involved process and the point of the exercise is not to harm the fish. Tailing the fish involves finding what is called the wrist, as it feels like a wrist, in the Salmon's tail. Grasping the wrist fimly but not hard enough to break the wrist, slide your hand under the fish being carefull not to hold the fish upside down or put your fingers in the gills. With your hand under the head you can snap your picture while removing the hook.

A friend along to can be a great help with landing the larger fish and can snap your picture at the same time. Then release the fish into the current and never pull him back and forth as this could drown a tired fish.
