Atlantic Salmon Fishing: Sinking Tips/Lines
Posted by fliesandfinsnorth on Thursday, November 16 @ 12:30:46 PST
Generally speaking, sinking tips or lines are not used in low to normal water flow conditions. High water can bring out the sinking or intermediate tips so as to make the presentaion of the fly where the Salmon can see it. I very seldom seen sinking tip used in low water as your fellow fisherman will regard it as snagging and unsportsman like. That said high and fast water will bring out the sinking tips giving the angler, in high water conditions a chance to show the fish his offerring.
So sinking tips can be used given water levels are high and fast or perhaps in the case of a deep pool where current keeps a presentaion from being at a reasonable depth for the fish to see. When questioning use of sinking line it is best to ask a guide or see what other fisherman are using.
