Gaspe Fly Fishing: Dry Fly Fishing
Posted by fliesandfinsnorth on Tuesday, December 12 @ 06:36:25 PST
The " Bomber " is probably the most often used drie fly, is a great way to fish for Atlantic Salmon. The great fish rising to one of these bright colored top water flies heightens the take experience by an extra heart beat. There are fisherman that will not fish a wet fly and consistently fish dry. Techniques vary as do success rates. I would like some input on this type of fishing as I have had limited success with dries and would like to hear from fisherman who are succesful with this type fly.
Usually, the technique for dry flies varies from dead drift to aggitating the fly over the nose of the target fish. In the Gaspe rivers you can usually see the fish your casting to and can see them move in responce to your fly. When one moves, after a few more casts, sometimes a larger or smaller fly will bring the strike and sometimes a different color is all it takes but ultimately its still the fish of a thousand casts.

Re: Gaspe Fly Fishing: Dry Fly Fishing by MANITOU on Wednesday, December 13 @ 09:42:11 PST http://www.nsfa-adventures.com | Greg In July i have lots of success with dry flies but I rarely use bombers, I prefer the white wulf or grey wullf and had lots of cuccess with the canuel, cassure, hazel, matane special, paonne special and never forget a big gray riffle.
On the Trinite this last season dry flies accounted for 13 salmon and on the Pentecote 11 Salmon all of those were on dries. I love to skate the dry fly and this often create a response from the salmon. In August wet flies work best for me I dont know why.
Cant wait for nest season I have tied some new dry fly patterns waiting to intice a salmon to come show himself.

Re: Gaspe Fly Fishing: Dry Fly Fishing by QuebecSporting on Friday, December 15 @ 15:47:26 PST http://www.QuebecSporting.com | Bonjour Greg,
I only fish dries, however, a very successful surface fly is the Muddler. (fished up river as a dry fly).
Brown, White, Olive, black & orange muddlers are my favorite. Sizes No 2 to No 8.
Many anglers never fish dries in early season, some say water temp is too cold, levels too high, water color rtc...
Well, last season, our first fish landed on a No 2 White Bomber - June 6th..
It's the fly in the water that will catch the fish!!
Ann
Happy Holidays
