Atlantic Salmon Fly Tying: Riffling Hitch
Posted by waterwhippa on Thursday, January 18 @ 09:02:00 PST
Just curious if any of you use the riffling hitch to skate bombers for Atlantics. I recently tied up some bomber patterns and am looking forward to skating them for steelhead here on the salmon this summer. Also, How long of a leader would be used with this set-up? Any help would be great.

I started with the riffling hitch when I fished in Newfoundland in the mid to late 90 (it was called portland hitch in NFLD) I only use it on wet flies, this fishing method ,ake the fly skate in a angle that the fish see the whole fly almost sideways and this sometimes makes the salmon hit the fly more willingly
I never tried it on dry flies and the leader use is the same like any other set up the hitch only uses half an inch of leader to tie it on the fly.
